Childs Hill is a learning community. Through our work in the main school, in Pathways and in the Children’s Centre we engage with a wide range of Learning Partners who assist us in our aim of inspiring and supporting every pupil to achieve their full potential.
John Lyon's Charity gives grants to benefit children and young people up to the age of 25 who live in nine boroughs in northwest London: Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea and the Cities of London and Westminster. The Charity's main policy is to promote the life-chances of children and young people through education.
At Childs Hill we were successful, along with four other schools, in a securing funding from the John Lyon’s Charity to place a dedicated play therapist in each school for one day a week.
Paiwand education project works in partnership with voluntary organisations, local authorities and mainstream schools in order to test a new model of high quality, sustainable supplementary school provision that raises the attainment of targeted disadvantaged children in critical National Curriculum subjects such as Maths and English.
We run four Saturday schools, three in Harrow and one in Barnet, we support over 500 children and young people from low income families from London boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Camden, Enfield, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon and Westminster.
Childs Hill teachers have been very influential in the success of the Paiwand Saturday school in Barnet and many of our children have benefited from attending.
Mosaic inspires young people from deprived communities to realise their talents and potential.
Founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2007, Mosaic’s mentoring programme create opportunities for young people growing up in our most deprived communities. Programmes are delivered by volunteers, and lift the aspirations of young people and close the gap between those aspirations and their attainment. By linking young people with inspirational role models in this way, it boosts their confidence, self-efficacy and long-term employability.
At Childs Hill we invited Mosaic mentors in to deliver the primary school mentoring programme. This is a unique programme that aims to raise aspirations of young girls and to help empower their mothers so that they are better able to support their daughters fulfill their potential.
Beanstalk Reading Volunteers
Beanstalk recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading.
At Childs Hill our Beanstalk reading helpers work with children on a one-to-one basis, giving them their full attention and support to:
- improve reading levels
- increase overall confidence
- inspire a lifelong love of reading
The Safer Families Project is a successful early intervention project based in the community, which is supported by our domestic violence workers, Relate, HomeStart Barnet, Children's Centre workers, with contributions from different relevant practitioners including those within the domestic violence field.
The project's aim is to identify children and families where domestic abuse and conflict is a feature of family life but, do not reach the threshold for social care intervention. Once families are identified the team intervene and support these families to prevent escalation to social care.
The project works with Barnet families who have children aged 0 to 11 years. The project is based at Newstead and The Hyde Children's Centres, and also runs drop-in sessions at Underhill, St Margaret's, Barnfield and Childs Hill Children's Centres
